The Danger of a Single Story

"Stories matter. Many stories matter. Stories have been used to dispossess and to malign, but stories can also be used to empower and to humanize. Stories can break the dignity of a people, but stories can also repair that broken dignity."

This deserves to be played, shared and told again, and again, and again.

So I will.

As I said the first time...

I found this wonderful video. I present this to you in hope you will consider it’s message. There is danger in a single story. When we know so little about someone we are capable of making a mistake, a mistake of thinking that this single story we have is all that person is.

‘It’s not that a single story is not true but rather that it is incomplete. It robs people of their dignity’.

This can be applied to anyone or anything. A single story is indeed dangerous and often provided by whom has the greatest power.

There is always more to each person. Where do our misunderstandings come from? What can we do about it?
