Superpowers and real life.
Ok for this one, humour me. We hear about all things that may be possible and things that aren't so usual. Other things are just unlikely and well... less possible.
Either way, here's a look at what life with superpowers probably would really be like, in the real world.
Life still sux.
Oh poor spiderman, or should I say ..Peter Parker? He must have a huge day ahead of him everyday. He pretty much works two jobs (when he isn't fired), is trying to study and is barely able to pay his rent. He can't even be with the girl he likes. Not everyone can be as rich as Bruce Wayne. It looks like life still sux.
Bullies and gossip still pisses you off
Ever wonder what it would be like growing up with powers? In Steven King's 'Carrie' she our main character got pretty mad. She had been picked on repeatedly through high school (normal for some of us). She was the butt end of a pretty bad joke for prom night though. She didn't handle it so well and she killed everyone. Such a waste of powers... although, I'm not sure what else you should do with powers like that.
You can still make a mess of things and piss others off
In Hancock (loved this movie) our hero is well.... a little less than you need him to be. Regardless, some people can still see the hero in you... you just have to find a way to get it right... or I guess just mess up less often... I still love this movie. Play the clip.
Some of us would be out of control
So much power. How do you get something like that right anyway? In 'Xmen: The Last Stand' Phoenix, formerly known as Jean, is finally in touch with her inner powers, after only suppressing them since.. well, since forever. I guess when you are out of control you are out of control. Sheesh, then I guess somebody has to go and kill you. Not so awesome.
You could get sick of doing the right thing and become a Supervillan
Some people are of course more likely than others. Considering what we face in real life though I guess maybe the temptation can become too much and you would just try dominate everyone and/or ruin everyone else's life. If real life was really hard for a hero then I guess I would be surprised that we don't have more Supervillans. In Star Wars VII we look at thinking big. Real big. We aren't just looking at annihilation of a planet or two but rather as many as you feel necessary using your super resources. Do it as a statement, to suppress others, because you are pissed off or just for an evil power trip? You're in charge. A bit too final for me.
I think it would be awesome to have powers... it depends on what kind though.
Seeing that it is all fantasy then perhaps I would just wish to have them all.
Actually... maybe it's best if no one has powers. We can't even manage having guns yet and we aren't exactly set up for interstellar warfare or complex combat.
Hmmmm........
Back to ordinary life then.
Happy Monday.
