Odd Thomas- Full Book Series

I know there was a movie that came out but more on that later. This is specifically about the entire series that I absolutely fell in love with. I started reading the series maybe over 15 years ago, when the kids were settled in school and I was experiencing mechanical failure of cars and using public transport for the first time. I had time to kill and wasn't sure where to start with it. I was visiting libraries to pass the time, reading a lot of books and started falling fast into fantasy worlds. There was so many fiction books I had not read before and at the time there was a pretty good variety in the genres I was interested in. I picked up the first book, book 1 "Odd Thomas" and after that, even when I had less time, I read every other book that I could until they didn't have anymore of the series at the library.

Odd Thomas, the series by Dean Koontz follows 'Oddie' in his daily life, first in his home town Pico Mundo. However, Oddie lives no ordinary life. As he explains he can see ghosts and bodachs. Oddie is often distracted by the dead who are trying to communicate something to him, usually something that is a big deal. The bodachs thrive on this and often also show up more when they are excited that something bad that is about to happen. Oddie has acknowledged that this is a part of his life and, in response, tries to live the most simplest life ever- as fry cook, with no assets and the simplest of possessions.

Due to this being an incredible interest of mine, I found every story captivating. When I realised that a movie was also released in 2013 I did not rush to find it. Too often a movie is made and it disappoints because it either strays from the book(s) or it doesn't capture something the way we valued it. I didn't want anything other than the way it already was for me. Two thumbs up from me though, on this one. I finally saw it last week and I was really glad it stuck to the first book- bodachs, characters, that sad bit that made me cry and Oddie is... odd. I still like the book(s) better though because unlike a movie, which is often trapped into a comfortable length of time, books are exactly as long as they need to be and the journey is far more descriptive.

So yep, that's one of my fave "of all time" book series. Looks like there's been a few more since I last read them so I am heading back in to read the last few that I haven't read yet. I loved those books to bits.

That's all for now. Reading is good for you.
